Overnight rain, sleet, freezing rain and snow caused a slushy and slippery start Tuesday across much of central and southern Minnesota, and western Wisconsin.
The slippery conditions — with temperatures hovering right around freezing in the Twin Cities — prompted some school districts to cancel or delay the start of classes. Find a list of those schools below.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation was reporting scattered icy road conditions across the state. In addition to the slush and ice, the overnight rain — combined with storm drains blocked by snow — led to ponding on streets in the Twin Cities early Tuesday.
The precipitation will gradually end Tuesday morning, but temperatures will fall below freezing late Tuesday into early Wednesday. That means Tuesday’s slushy streets and sidewalks may be icy on Wednesday morning.
