The new year has arrived, meaning millions of Americans will be celebrating the arrival of a new year at New Year's Eve parties or in the comfort of their own home.
Those who want to start the new year by stocking their refrigerators or picking up an energy drink to cure a hangover are in luck, as most national grocery and retail chains will remain open on New Year's Day this year, as well as many restaurant chains. Banks, post offices, and the stock market will be closed on the holiday.
If you need to make a trip to the grocery store on Jan. 1, Walmart will be an option for you this year, as most of the company's stores will be open their regular operating hours on Jan. 1. Most Walmart stores are open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. local time every day.
What grocery stores are open on New Year's Day?
Here is a list of grocery stores that will be open on Jan. 1.
- Walmart: 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- Target: Regular operating hours
- BJ's Wholesale: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Kroger family of stores; The Kroger family of stores includes: Baker’s, City Market, Dillons, Food 4 Less, Foods Co, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, Gerbes, Jay C Food Store, King Soopers, Kroger, Mariano’s, Metro Market, Pay-Less Super Markets, Pick’n Save, QFC, Ralphs, Ruler, Smith’s Food and Drug.
- Food Lion: Regular operating hours
- Publix: Most stores close at 7 p.m.; Stores in Atlanta and Charlotte close at 8 p.m.
- Meijer: 6 a.m. to midnight
- Costco, Sam's Club, Trader Joe's, Aldi, and Lidl stores outside of New York will all be closed on New Year's Day.
